Born on February 7, 1812, over the course of his writing career, Charles Dickens wrote the beloved classic novels Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, Nicholas Nickleby, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations, among many other works of fiction and criticism.
The Signalman was first published in the Christmas issue of All the Year Round in 1866. Dickens died of a stroke on June 9, 1870, leaving
his final novel, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, unfinished.
