Publicity & Marketing Coordinator

Biblioasis is an award-winning independent publishing house based in Windsor, Ontario. We publish approximately 25 titles a year, including short fiction, novels, poetry, literary criticism, memoir, belles lettres, local and regional history, and general non-fiction. We are also the publishers of the critical journal CNQ: Canadian Notes & Queries.


Major responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement a national and international publicity strategy for 16-20 books annually, including electronic pitches, review copy mailings, and related follow-up
  • Build and manage relations with key media throughout North America
  • Write and tailor catalogue copy for different markets
  • Write and update press releases and pitches
  • Manage and update bibliodata and other electronic feeds to keep information about our books current
  • Liaise with bookstores to promote our books, arrange author signings, and secure media coverage in local media for author events
  • Organize tours/launches/readings and events
  • Use social media to promote press, authors and books
  • Submit books for appropriate awards programs
  • Create and implement special promotions and co-op for key titles
  • Assist designing promotional material such as postcards, bookmarks, posters, and advertisements
  • Help plan author receptions, book launches, and trade show appearances
  • Write funding applications and grants which pertain to marketing, sales, and author travel
  • Oversee updates on the press’s website
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the press
  • Work in collaboration with sales representatives in both Canada and the United States so they are informed and enthusiastic about Biblioasis titles. Present titles in person and remotely at sales conferences and help to monitor and report on the performance of individual titles and the list as a whole.
  • Interact with colleagues and authors to strategize sales, marketing, and publicity opportunities and to plan and execute promotional and publicity events
  • Field author queries and help handle author relations
  • Solicit blurbs and endorsements
  • Solicit direct sales
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

  • Individuals must be extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must have a high degree of creativity and the ability to think strategically
  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Computer skills: Word and Excel experience required. Experience with Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat would be an asset.


Education and experience:

  • Courses or certificate in a publishing program an asset
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, art history, or related field, master’s degree preferred
  • Experience in the book publishing industry would be considered an asset
  • Previous publicity experience would be an asset
